IPL and LASER - The Power of Light ™

We are pleased to offer a breakthrough technology that is one of the most popular cosmetic treatment in years.  Photorejuvenation (IPL) is an intense pulsed light  treatment for face, neck and/or chest.  IPL is the most  effective treatment for redness and flushing of the skin  and will rejuvenate the look and feel of skin by reducing fine wrinkles, pore size, roughness and fade age spots. An IPL treatment package consists of a series of five to eight treatments, each lasting 30-45 minutes.

What facial concerns does IPL treat?

 · redness and flushing

 · enlarged pores

 · sun damage

 · rosacea

 · abnormal pigmentation

 · hyperpigmentation

 · age spots, freckling

 · roughness and fine wrinkles

 · small facial veins

 · birth marks

 · blemishes

 ·  melasma

Why is IPL so exciting? Medical lasers deliver a specific band of light that will generally treat one skin  problem.  Doctor Lichten uses only the AuroraTM with its Intense Pulsed Light and Radio-frequency head for skin rejuvenation, hair removal and acne treatment.

Photo-rejuvenation Systems, deliver a broad band of pulsed light, so they are an alternative to laser surgery, chemical peels and it has no downtime! Following a treatment, most patients can go back to their usual activities and can immediately apply make-up.  IPL is a safe, non-invasive solution that can be customized to your individual needs and will provide superior cosmetic results and high levels of  satisfaction.  After only the first treatment, skin feels smoother and appears more even toned.

Why is RF so exciting?  The addition of radio-frequency potentiates the energy that can be delivered to the subdermis.  More energy means more damage to the underlying abnormal browns and reds, the hairs, and even the acne pores.  We will see stronger RF machines that tighten the skin and increase the rejuvenation effects at each visit. Some will even melt fat.

How many and how often? A series of at least 3- 5 treatments is needed to obtain the best results. Some patients  may benefit from more treatments depending on the severity of the condition treated. Treatments are given 3-4 weeks apart.  We currently offer a series of six treatments for the price of five.  Based on the high level of demand for this procedure, many offices are offering inappropriate substitutes.  Don’t be fooled by other practices that give only a single “pass” with the machine or only treat “part” of the face with a  machine that is not a true IPL machine.

What is a IPL treatment like? Each IPL treatment takes about 30-45 minutes. Patients tolerate the non-invasive procedure very well without any anesthesia. Those with more sensitive skin may use a topical anesthetic, applied 30 minutes before the procedure.  Before treatment, a cold gel is applied to the area treated, and you may be given dark glasses to protect your eyes from the bright light. During the treatment, you will hear a beep each time the machine is used.  Afterwards, for a few minutes or hours, the skin may be flushed and appear irritated. Brown spots will actually be slightly darker at first. These initial effects usually fade in within hours, but can occasionally last for a few days.

What are the expected results? Following IPL there is a gradual decrease in overall redness, flushing and acne-like breakouts. Treated skin will become smoother with a reduction in fine wrinkles and pore size as well as a fading of sun spots or uneven pigmentation. In time, the results are smoother, healthier, and a more youthful appearance to your  skin.

Is it safe?  IPL is non-invasive and very safe. You can usually return directly to work and apply makeup immediately.  You can resume all your activities (except sun exposure) immediately.  Very rarely, temporary mild bruising or blistering may occur in the  treated areas, which will resolve in a few days. The procedure is FDA approved.

Am I a candidate? If your appearance is marred by facial redness or signs of aging, or if you would like to maintain a youthful, healthy appearance then IPL is for you. Contact our office for a consultation to see if we can help you with the latest technology and no downtime!
